Wind market has not recovered from the financial crisis as quickly as the industry expected. The fastest growth will in the future be in North America and Asia, where Moventas wind gear business will now also focus more and more. As a consequence, the operations in Jyväskylä are adjusted to match the market situation and demand of the future.

Moventas is to supply mechanical power transmission equipment for drum pulpers manufactured by Andritz. This is Moventas’ largest single order for drum pulper ring gears. Startup inspection services are also included. The deliveries are scheduled for 2010. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Finland based power transmission provider for wind turbines, renewable energy and other industries, Moventas, will provide the whole mechanical power transmission solution to a large pulp drying machine in North America.

Economic crisis and industry challenges were clearly visible in the year 2009 results for Moventas, wind gear and industrial gear manufacturer. Net sales was EUR 237,4 million, 38 % less than in 2008 when the growth was at its height. EBITDA was EUR 11,8 million, 5 % of net sales.

Moventas, one of the largest wind turbine gear manufacturers in the world, sells its factory in Parkano to Takoma Oyj. The target for the transaction is to relieve capital for expansions in USA and in China. Debt-free transaction price is approximately 11 million euros. To support the investment in USA, Moventas was granted 4,1 million dollars tax credit from President Obama's stimulus package.

One of the biggest wind gear manufacturers in the world, Moventas and Dong Fang New Energy Equipment (DNEE) have agreed on co-operation. The parties will in co-operation develop a 3 MW wind turbine of international quality requirements aimed for the Chinese market. Moventas' role is to provide the reliable gear solution to the turbine. The first prototype gears will be delivered in December 2010.

Cleantech Finland unites the top Finnish cleantech companies and experts, with products, services, processes and technologies that prevent or reduce the impact of harmful actions on the environment.

Moventas, the biggest wind power player in Finland and globally the third largest wind turbine gear manufacturer will according to its new strategy focus on mechanical power transmission in renewable energy. The company continues also with industrial gears manufacturing that has a supporting and balancing role in the operations. The greatest growth potential, however, is believed to be found in wind power.
