Dr. Niels Hammer to head Moventas technology

Leading wind gear manufacturer and service provider, Moventas, has appointed Dr.-Ing. Niels Hammer Senior Vice President of Technology as of 1 January, 2013. Dr. Hammer will be responsible for Moventas’ research and development globally.

Niels Hammer has an ideal background for technology leadership of industrial and wind gear engineering. He has extensive experience in manufacturing processes and engineering management. Dr. Hammer’s strong background of working for global companies is based on a wide network with German universities and research institutes due to his earlier university career.

Dr. Hammer joins Moventas from Siemens AG, Sector Energy, where he worked as a Senior Consultant (Corporate Commodity Engineer) for engineering and management, specifically in supply chain management. Before this, he worked for Siemens Mechanical Drive (formerly Flender AG), where he headed different projects for both industrial and wind gear manufacturing and design optimizations.

Dr. Hammer holds a Master’s Degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in mechanical engineering and has finalized his scientific employment at university with a doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) in mechanical engineering. This scientific job experience includes especially development and optimization of machining processes within different industries in Europe and Asia. He is also a trained and certified industrial mechanic (Facharbeiter).

Moventas’ highly skilled R&D teams in two locations in Finland and Germany will be combined into one team. Niels Hammer will report to Moventas President & CEO Mikael Laine and will be based in Moventas’ factory in Wuppertal, Germany.
