Low noise and vibration levels
Unique reliability and low noise are some of the reasons why our gears are preferred by the most demanding wind turbine manufacturers around the world. Today’s wind turbine OEMs expect more rigorous vibration tests to measure turbine behavior in greater details than ever before. Tests are conducted primarily to improve product reliability, but also to comply with ever stricter demands from regulatory agencies. To meet this need, Moventas’ engineers perform extensive modal impact testing to ensure that resonances of a gear unit do not match the excitation frequencies of the surrounding structure or gear mesh frequencies. This eliminates the potential damage caused by resonant vibrations in the framework, rotor blades, drive shafts and the tower.
To achieve noiseless wind power, the gear unit has to be vibration-free. Our gear units are designed to prevent vibrations from passing through the gearbox fixing points to the foundation of the wind power plant. Moventas has successfully reduced the noise level of its gearboxes by improving tooth accuracy and choosing the optimal geometry and profile.
