The impact of design on noise and vibration levels is significant. In Moventas' wind turbine gears, the design of the gear housing dampens noise and vibration, and prevents harmful resonance. Housing design also contributes to maximizing the power-weight ratio of gear units and, being fabricated, the housing allows for flexibility in design.
Maintenance features are also considered at the design phase. Horizontally-split gear housings facilitate maintenance in the wind turbine nacelle. The space required to use tools is also considered to ensure ease of installation and maintenance. In addition, well-finished, rounded surfaces are easy to keep clean. |
