The noise level of Moventas' wind turbine gears is minimized through careful analysis of tooth parameters, tooth modification and housing design. The use of high quality materials and production techniques as well as excellent tooth accuracy contribute to achieving the goal of minimal excitation of the gear mesh. FE analysis and on-site testing by modal analysis are used to eliminate any harmful resonance from the gear housing and to achieve smooth noise spectrum without pure tones.
For silent operation of a wind turbine, the gear unit must also be vibration-free. Moventas' gear units are designed to prevent vibration from passing through the gearbox fixing points to the foundations of the wind power plant, where it could create excitation in the turbine structures thereby causing noise. |
