Transmission Error and its effect in dynamic behavior in wind turbine gearbox

Transmission error is an important excitation mechanism for gearbox sound and vibration. Thus, it is important for Moventas to develop methods to have reliable and predictable TE calculations.  Referring to this, Moventas is looking for a M.Sc. thesis worker in the theme of “Transmission Error and its effect in dynamic behavior in wind turbine gearbox”.

The scope of your M.Sc. thesis will be adjusted based on your competence area; correlation between simulated model and the actual gearbox dynamic behavior in the test rig as well as in wind turbine will be the main focus. You will be a member of a long-term development task to minimize the tonality risk in early phase of the design process with advanced and calibrated simulation methods.

The work will be divided into three parts:

  1. Literature review of transmission error and its simulation methods and possibilities. This is to be linked with existing Moventas development tools.
  2. Prepare a method and simulation and virtual testing of TE for conceptual design use.
  3. Examination of results by connecting the simulation into physical testing in full scale test bench and in wind turbine measurements.


M.Sc. student is recommended to have background with mechanical engineering and simulation.
